EHP DEVELOPMENT LOG / ARCHIVE

This section focuses on my process on making the site. It will be constantly updated!

I've included little fun facts and my ideas for parts of the site.

A lot has happened just in these couple months so I thought it'd be fun to share.

Helpful Tip - SKETCH OUT YOUR SITE LAYOUT BEFORE CODING!! It will carry you!

7/11/23 - 5/19/24

There wasn't much to say about this version of the site. I wanted the site to be a small archive site for my art and that was it! I only had 4 pages planned.

Here's a sketch of what i planned.

Yeah the layout I had at first was a bit soulless and had no style. I knew I had to spice it up with some graphics or something.

I mean like look at this bro.. you can tell I didn't know what I was doing

This is what the site looked like for the time I left it dormant until I picked up again in June 2024.

It was time for a new sketch, I came up with this plan it was much better and reflected what I wanted at the time.

I had ideas to add more moving things (such as marquees) to the homepage and the idea to add character art at the top.

Eventually my ideas just kept branching off this sketch and I added as a I coded. You'll learn about it in the next section.

June - July '24

So I caved in and started making my site during this month.

There were tons of ideas for the site, taking inspiration from games mainly. I had a Kirby Super Star Ultra theme planned for the site at the time.

First step for me was creating an entrance page. I started on creating an enter button and trying to go for an aesthethic.

This was just a placeholder image but I was trying to go for this style.

I made a mockup file select button for the site so I could make files like Super Star Ultra. I just gave up and made an actual enter button instead. My coding was very shit, I couldn't find out how to make little files like above.

Here's the old welcome button.

making a homepage..

I had to create my own layout from scratch. There wasn't any inspiration from anywhere. I thought having the site split between two sides would look pretty fire so I went with it. Coding the layout was hell for me. I almost gave up again and lost motivation for a minute. (Hence why there's a good month between early updates)

I didn't even know how to move divs for a good while or how to put divs inside eachother.. it was that bad. I was using float: right / float: left for everything on the site. Which reminds me, I might need to go fix some of the pages on this site, they're very old.

Since I was very angry at coding, I decided to start making some graphics for EHP instead. I made buttons for navigation first. They still remain on the site today! I meant for them to be on a corkboard like Kirby SSU, that's why there's little pins on each of the buttons.

review area

Next page for the site had to be a review area. I knew I wanted to write reviews someday.

I had a couple ideas for a review area directory page but I went with this one.

this page still remains the oldest unchanged page on the site. I originally had the idea to have my character, Yuuji stand right besides the text right there but I'd say it ruins the aesthethic of the page.

It's meant to replicate Sonic Mega Collection Plus, a childhood game and favorite of mine. It's based on the extras menu.

about me

What's a personal site without an about me page? I created a very simple about me page for the time being. I didn't need any crazy layouts for now. I put some basic info about me in a box and put a background. I called it a day for this page and moved onto other ones.

one page I removed was the commisions page. I was planning to have art commision info on the site but I removed it. but hey, maybe I'll bring them back someday when I get even better at art! and when that day comes around, I'd like to know if anyone would be interested!

art gallery

The last planned part of the site and the most important.

Honestly I was very lost making a layout for this page. This was one of the pages that made me trip out and get angry ngl. I just left it looking weird for a while until I learned more about coding.

The art pages all look the same from when I made them back in 2024.

This month was dedicated to getting rid of my jank ass homepage I made for the site. Since I enjoy small / compact homepages I decided to take my try with making one.

Here's what I planned.

It may look like a bunch of jibberish, let me explain.

I created the new layout from scratch. The only thing I was inspried by was the top part of the site. I wanted to have artwork in the middle and navigation above and below it, like the 2advanced website in 2001.

The final product really didn't turn out too much like the sketch but hey, sketches are just for getting your ideas out.

I wanted to have all information in the two boxes layout again towards the bottom, like the first site layout. But instead I tweaked around and fit everything together as I realized my idea probably wouldn't work.

The main problem with trying to code this layout was the space of the page. I had no space to actually execute my plans. Like the Ad box by the top and random video by the side wouldn't fit on the webpage. I would have to zoom out the page with css or change something like div sizes to make it work. Plus I realized when I need to use CSS to zoom the page out, it's not always responsive on all devices and webpages, It was a no go for that.

My main goal is the have the site look the same and responsive on most devices with it's layout. I've def suceeded this time around. Although.. the site still isn't viewable on mobile yet, maybe I'll be make a mobile responsive homepage someday.

NEOCITIES SITES

There were a couple of neocities sites that pushed me to lock in and create my site.

Have you ever seen a site and went "holy shit, this is cool as hell"? I'm sure most of us have those sites that inspired us.

I've bookmarked them sometime ago for this purpose, to write about them on my site someday and well, that someday is now! This part is kinda like a thank you for the motivation (i know.. it sounds silly).

Severe

There's just something so cool about this site! This is one of the sites that made me think "I gotta lock in and make my site".

I really enjoy the aesthethic going on here!

This site has a lotta personality. There was def alotta care put into making the site what it is now.

Ko's Crag

This site is pretty cozy, I really get some silly and fun vibes from this one!

reminds me of like early nintendo when everything was a bit more wacky.

You definitely need autoplay music on for this site! without it, you aren't expierencing the full site!

EHP wasn't in full development yet when i visitied, i remember wondering how i could add autoplaying music to my site after visiting this one lol

Makoenergy

One of my favorite sites! This site really has sauce and style.

Everything is sleek and compact, fitting everything all into a little flipphone screen!

It's always neat when sites have concepts around them.

The site radiates a cool y2k feeling aswell.

The 2000s shrine also is pretty neat! Can't wait to read the finished version!

Visited after June 2024 - Present Day

One day I hope my site will inspire others to create their own! hell, it's probably already happened who knows..

Other Inspirations

I've always been inspired by the Y2K Aesthethic, i've been trying to incorperate it more into the site as I go.

Videogames have played a big part in making the site.
